For the past year or so, the United States of America has been mainly focused on one thing: politics. The current presidential race has certainly been a dramatic one, with some incredible odd characters trying to win over the citizens of this great country. Though we originally had enough candidates running to easily create an entire football team. Now there are basically five left during the primary elections.
It seems like at every turn, someone is attempting to throw one of the other candidates under the bus. Not only are democrats attacking republicans and vice versa, but they’re fighting within their own political parties too! If there’s one thing that’s certain, some of these candidates are definitely set on becoming the President that they’re completely out for blood.
At the top of each of their parties, republican candidate Donald Trump and democratic candidate Hilary Clinton have been making huge waves in this election race. With two major primary wins for each of the candidates earlier this week, they’re both continuing their major leads for their political parties. But, what happens when Donald Trump, known by many to be a bit sexist, calls out Hilary Clinton for playing the “woman card” in her campaign?
According to Trump, the only reason why anyone is voting for Clinton for the primary elections is because she is a woman. In an interview, Trump reportedly stated “The only thing she’s got going is the woman’s card, and the beautiful thing is, women don’t like her.” He also included that if Hilary was a man instead of a woman, she would only receive about 5% of the votes that she has received during this election.
That’s not the only time that Trump has made some sexist and misogynistic comments in regards to Hilary and her campaign. On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”, Trump commented “I haven’t quite recovered — it’s early in the morning — from her shouting that message,” . And I know a lot of people would say you can’t say that about a woman because, of course, a woman doesn’t shout, but the way she shouted that message was not – ooh. Its just, that’s the way she said it. I guess I’ll have to get used to a lot of that over the next four or five months.”
During CNN’s “New Day”, Trump also made more comments about Hilary in regards to the “woman card” that she is apparently playing during her campaign. “She is a woman, she is playing the woman card left and right. She didn’t play it last time with Obama, but she’s playing it much harder this time and she will be called on it. I know it, I think if she were a man, and she was the way she is, she would get virtually no votes.”
Yes, she would be the first woman to be the President of the United States. Yes, there are some people who are voting for her to be President just so that she could make history, or a big step for feminists everywhere. But Clinton definitely does not see it that way.
In response to Trump’s negative words about her, Clinton reportedly replied during her primary night victory party on Tuesday with: “Mr. Trump accused me of playing the, quote, ‘woman card.’ Well, if fighting for women’s health care and paid family leave and equal pay is playing the woman card, then deal me in.”
Regardless of what Trump thinks of Clinton’s campaign, Hilary continues to be at the top of the democratic charts with poll numbers. She is continuing to receive the votes in the primary elections over her competitor, Bernie Sanders, so she’s obviously doing something right with her campaign.
